Hello and welcome to the seventh edition of Getting Teamwork Right! I have been busy coaching teams recently, including a globally spread team that met up in Majorca for our session. It was great to be out of the heat of the UAE for a little while! One of the topics that kept coming up for all of these teams was what they do with their meetings. Meetings are something that all teams need, and yet it is something that the majority of people report as being inefficient or even a complete waste of time. This seems to be a constant challenge for teams, so I thought it would be useful in this edition to spend a little time sharing a few thoughts on what you could do to improve your team meetings. Is there anything that you do in your meetings that I haven't covered? Perhaps you have an excellent practice or habit that makes your team meetings genuinely useful. If you have anything you'd like to share, please do get in touch. As always, ask any questions that I might be able to help you with. Wishing you good team health — Andy Fieldhouse. |

Tip
Ask the Question Before You Start Before you dive into the agenda, have someone ask out loud: "What is the purpose of this meeting?" It sounds simple, almost too simple, but it works. It focuses minds on the job ahead, gives everyone a shared reason for being in the room, and makes it much easier to spot when the conversation has drifted off course. Try it at the start of your next meeting and see what changes. |
